Blister - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Blister consists of a pool of lymph and other bodily fluids beneath the upper layers of the skin . Blistering is a distinguishing characteristic of second degree burns . Blisters occur when feet get hot & sweaty, making socks stick to the feet. The sock and foot then rub against each other and the inside of the shoe blister is an amount of fluid that is trapped under the skin, between two layers of skin. Blisters can form if shoes always rub the same spot. Wearing shoes that do not fit or wearing shoes without socks can cause blisters.

Blisters are quite common for anyone who regularly participates in sports. Most athletes just accept them as the price you pay to play, but there are measures to avoid them, or decrease the pain and risk of infection if you get one. Blister beetles are infrequent pests of several crops including alfalfa, sweet clover, potatoes, beans, and sugarbeets.

Blisters can become infected. If a blister is punctured, it forms an open wound and should be bandaged to prevent bacteria and dust from entering the wound which could result in inflammation. Generally, if a blister can be protected against breaking, leave it alone. The colorless, watery fluid will be gradualIy absorbed by deeper layers of skin and the skin will soon return to normal. If the bllster is large or in an area where it is likely to be broken-such as on the foot where it may be opened by shoe rubbing, follow these steps:

I. Gently clean the blister and tbe area aound it with soap and water.
2. Sterilize a needle over a flame and use it to puncture the edge of the blister.
3. Gently press the edges of the blister opposite the point of puncture to force out tbe fluid slowly.
4. Apply a sterile gauze pad and adhesive.
